Mothering Sunday

Mother's Day is celebrated in many different countries and not all of them celebrate it on the same date or in the same manner. Norway observes Mother's Day in February, in Argentina it's celebrated in October while in Lebanon it's on the first day of spring.
The earliest Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honour of Rhea, the mother of the Gods. During the 1600's, England celebrated Mothering Sunday on the 4th Sunday of Lent which honoured the mothers of England. As Christianity spread throughout Europe, the celebration changed to honour the "Mother Church". Over time, the church festival blended with the Mothering Sunday celebration and people began honouring their mothers as well as the church.
Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day takes place on Sunday 22nd March and we hope you will be able to join us for a special service at Bladon Methodist Church. The first part of the service will led by the Junior Church before they retired to the schoolroom to prepare posies of flowers to present to their mothers at the end of the service.
